FotoFacial RF® & FotoBody RF®

AYA Medical Spa’s FotoFacial RF® treatment applies a unique combination of controlled heat and light (Syneron® eMax™ laser) to improve the appearance of age spots, freckles, and sun spots.  Additionally, FotoFacial RF® treatment can improve skin texture (wrinkles), reduce redness and rosacea symptoms, decrease the appearance of unwanted facial veins, and diminish the visibility of pores on the face, hands, neck, or body.

The FotoFacial RF® system, also known as FotoBody RF®, is an IPL (intense pulsed light) and radio frequency (RF) technology that works by emitting highly concentrated, short beams of laser light to eliminate the unwanted pigmentation associated with the aforementioned skin conditions.  The radio frequency component of FotoFacial RF® and FotoBody RF® treatment works to stimulate collagen production, reduce wrinkling, and firm the treatment area.  The system is non-ablative:  leaving the surface of the skin intact and instead penetrating to the deeper layers of the dermis.

Similar to the stimulation of collagen promoted by Sculptra® injections, FotoFacial RF® treatments must be performed in a cycle that corresponds with your body’s own rejuvenation processes with time in between treatments to allow your skin to heal itself.  Typically, FotoFacial RF® patients see the best skin rejuvenation results after a series of 5 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart.

FotoFacial RF® FAQs

How does the FotoFacial RF® system rejuvenate my skin?
The FotoFacial RF® system uses gentle light and radio wave energies to restore skin to a more youthful state. Brown spots from sun damage and aging (freckles, sun spots), red spider veins, rosacea, or broken capillaries, and rough skin texture will improve over a series of treatments.

Is FotoFacial RF® treatment safe?
FotoFacial RF® /FotoBody RF® treatment is safe for the skin. Because the elos™ technology that powers the FotoFacial RF® system is non ablative, the surface of the skin is left unharmed while rejuvenation takes place in the skin’s subdermal layers.  There are no noted long term health hazards from the light or radio waves used in FotoFacial RF® treatment.

How frequently do I need FotoFacial RF® treatments?
FotoFacial RF® treatments are recommended every 3-4 weeks for a total of 5 treatments. Patients often benefit from microdermabrasion in between treatments to exfoliate the dead skin cells and speed the rejuvenation process.

Does FotoFacial RF® treatment hurt?
The sensation associated with FotoFacial RF® IPL treatment is often described as a “hot pinch” or “snapping” feeling. The sensation only lasts a fraction of a second, and you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation for a short time afterward. Most people tolerate the treatment without a topical anesthetic. AYA’s licensed estheticians utilize a cooling device during treatment to further minimize any discomfort.

Are there any side effects associated with FotoFacial RF® treatment?
FotoFacial RF® patients may notice temporary pinkness of the treated skin, but flushing should promptly subside.  Most people return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment. (You can reapply your make-up immediately following treatment.) The improvement in pigmented and vascular irregularities can often be appreciated by the time you return for your next treatment 3-4 weeks later. It’s important to understand that pigmented areas temporarily turn darker before they lighten.

Who is a good candidate for FotoFacial RF®/ FotoBody® skin rejuvenation?
FotoFacial RF® treatment is suitable for anyone who wants to improve the signs of sun damage, aging skin, pigment and vascular irregularities, and uneven skin texture. FotoFacial RF® skin rejuvenation can be used on the face, neck, chest, back, arms, and hands.
