What Are The Benefits Of Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is one of the most effective antioxidant skincare ingredients and has many benefits. Vitamin C serums treat many common skin concerns including fine lines, rough texture, uneven tone, acne scars, and general dullness. Read on to find out more about why vitamin C works so well to improve the skin and deliver a brighter and smoother complexion.

Question: What is Vitamin C?

Answer:
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals, offsetting damage from aggressors like UV rays and air pollution. In addition, vitamin C supports the skin’s natural regeneration process and helps repair damaged skin cells.

Question: How else does vitamin C benefit the skin?

Answer: Vitamin C accelerates the production of collagen and elastin, the naturally occurring protein fibers that keep skin looking firm and plump. It also fades and prevents dark spots and hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanin production in the skin.

Question: How can you add vitamin C into your daily skin-care routine?

Answer: The key to an effective vitamin C product is choosing a serum with ascorbic acid (or L-ascorbic acid). Even better? Finding a serum that includes vitamin E will increase effectiveness and double the protection against damage from free radicals.

Question: What are the best vitamin C products?

Answer: There are a range of vitamin C products, but not all are created equal. We carry only the most advanced medical-grade vitamin C serums including formulations from Revision Skincare, Obagi, Phyto-C, and our very own AYA Brightening Serum.

Question: Who should avoid vitamin C?

Answer: If you have sensitive skin, you may develop redness after using vitamin C products. Those with sensitive skin or allergies should start with a lower concentration and use the product on a small test area to ensure no allergic reaction occurs.

Spilling The Tea with Injector Lauren

Written by Lauren Smith | Nurse Practitioner

Let’s clear up some common questions and misconceptions about BOTOX® (BOTOX®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, Xeomin®) treatments.

Question: Will it hurt?

Answer: As an Injector, one of my goals is to create an experience that is as comfortable as possible for you. We use the tiniest needles and have tools to help distract you, which also helps increase comfort. It is important to remember that pain is subjective and different for everyone. Most of my patients tell me that it just feels like a tiny pinch.

Question: “I hate this deep line on my forehead that I’ve had since high school and this is my first time getting BOTOX®”:

Answer: Congratulations! I’m excited about your self-care journey and I’m here for it! Botox will not magically erase lines, especially deep lines that have never been treated before. In my opinion, Botox should not be used aesthetically to simply eradicate lines. Botox is a timeless (never going out of style) treatment that is best used to improve the quality, texture, and overall appearance of the skin. These treatments also improve lines created from muscle movements, help increase symmetry, give relaxation and lift in some areas, and support to others – to achieve a more youthful and rested look.

Question: How long will it last?

Answer: I recommend getting Botox every 3-4 months, as that is typically how long it will last. The benefits that you will notice with your Botox treatments are not permanent. Botox treatments require maintenance and your number of units and areas treated will change over time. Your face was not made out of a cookie cutter machine and neither should your Botox plan. With consistency in your Botox treatments, you will notice improvement and prevention in deeper lines being able to form over time. Botox is a maintenance treatment and patients see the biggest benefits and will experience better long term happiness when they keep up with their appointments.

Question: How many units am I getting?

Answer: After thorough assessment of your face and facial muscles I will create a customized plan for you that addresses your concerns. This could include upper face, lower face, and neck, depending on your concerns and goals. The amount of Botox that your Injector determines to use is based on the strength of your muscles, and surface area we are treating. For example, if someone has a larger forehead they will most likely require more units to enable adequate coverage and to give a natural look.

Question: How do I know when to start getting Botox?

Answer: If you can see lines at rest in places on your face where you animate (forehead, around the sides of your eyes, in between your eyebrows) then it’s probably time! This is why there’s no set age to start treatment. Starting earlier, before lines have an opportunity to become deeper, is going to yield a better result overall, including preventative benefits.
