Dear #AYA: Cold Weather Skincare Tips This Winter

November 28, 2017 | Blog

Dear #AYA Cold Weather Skincare Tips This WinterBrrr! If you’re like us, you’ve already begun to feel the chill of winter in the air. Maintaining healthy, hydrated skin is a year-round challenge, but it can be especially difficult during the cold winter months. It’s natural for your skin (especially your facial skin) to experience some dryness and damage during to the transition from autumn to winter. Constantly moving from cold outdoor temperatures to heated homes, stores, and offices can take a toll on your skin, leading to dryness, flaking, or even skin conditions like eczema and acne. That’s why the skincare experts at AYA Medical Spa are happy to answer some of your questions about how to keep your skin healthy and looking great all winter long.

Dear #AYA,

Is the winter a good time to undergo a cosmetic treatment or does it make more sense to wait until the spring? And if so, why?

Sincerely,

Ready and Waiting

Dear Ready and Waiting,

Skincare experts believe that winter is the best time to undergo a number of our most popular cosmetic treatments. Many of our treatments like chemical peels, Sciton® Laser Treatments, and more require a brief recovery period, during which we advise patients to keep their skin from exposure to the Sun’s UV rays. We know many people love to enjoy the warm, sunny weather during the spring and summer. However, during the winter months, UV rays are not as strong as they are during the warmer seasons. That’s why we recommend for many patients to begin their cosmetic treatments before the weather begins to heat up again.

Dear #AYA,

I am already looking ahead to next year. Is it too early to start laser hair removal treatments for next pool season?

Sincerely,

Thinking Ahead

Dear Thinking Ahead,

The winter is an ideal time to begin your laser hair removal treatment. Due to the staggered nature of hair growth, multiple laser hair removal treatments will likely be required to fully remove the hair from your treated area. In order to get the best possible results from laser hair removal, most patients will require between 4 – 6 treatment sessions, spaced about 6 weeks apart (though this may vary depending on the patient). So by starting your treatments now, you will be feeling smooth and ready in time to enjoy next spring and summer.

Dear #AYA,

Can you recommend any at home skincare tips to help complement the skincare treatments that I plan to undergo this winter?

Sincerely,

Between Treatments

Dear Between Treatments,

There are a number of things you can do at home to help promote glowing, well-hydrated skin. For starters, find the right skincare products to help cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin. Revision® Skincare’s Exfoliating Facial Rinse can help deeply clean pores and exfoliate the facial skin by sweeping away excess oil and impurities. As a bonus tip, try to cut down on hot showers and baths this winter. Although a long, hot shower can feel great when it’s colder outside, hot showers can further dry out your skin. We recommend keeping warmer showers and baths shorter than ten minutes and limiting yourself to one per day during the winter if possible.

We appreciate everyone who submitted questions this month.
