Summer has sadly come and gone and it’s time to transition into the fall season ahead. Maintaining healthy, young-looking skin is a year-round pursuit. Like the other seasons, the fall presents its own unique challenges for our skin. Autumn brings cooler weather and less humidity, which can lead to dry, flaky skin. With this in mind, the skincare experts here at AYA™ have taken some time to answer common questions about how to properly take care of your skin this fall.
How would you recommend changing my summer skincare regimen for the upcoming fall season?
Trying to Prepare
Dear Trying to Prepare,
The beginning of a new season is the perfect time to reassess and update your skincare regimen. What was best for your skin during the hotter summer months is different than what we would recommend for the milder fall season. For instance, instead of the lighter, oil-free moisturizer you’ve been using this summer, the fall is a great time to try a heavier moisturizer like EltaMD® Moisture-Rich Body Crème for the body. This ceramide-enhanced formula is ideal for keeping skin hydrated and healthy during the cooler, dryer months. For the face, we recommend Revision® Skincare Vitamin C 30% Lotion.
I wanted to start CoolSculpting® treatments during the summer but could never find the time. Have I missed my window, or does it still make sense to start treatments now?
Possibly Too Late
Dear Possibly Too Late,
The early fall can be an excellent time to begin CoolSculpting® non-surgical fat reduction treatments. Starting CoolSculpting® treatments now can be an excellent way to look your best for the upcoming fall holidays and parties. CoolSculpting® is a safe, FDA-approved way to shed stubborn, diet-resistant fat from areas all over the body including the abdomen, back, thighs, arms, and more.
Is sunscreen necessary during the fall? Especially when it’s not so hot out?
Dear Just Curious,
While we may typically associate sunscreen with summertime, we strongly recommend applying some degree of SPF protection all year long (preferably at least 30 SPF). The sun’s UV rays can still do damage during cooler seasons if your skin is not protected. In fact, UV radiation that can cause sun damage to your skin (or skin cancer) is just as strong in the fall as it is during the peak of summer. During the cooler fall months, try EltaMD® UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40.
