Dear #AYA: How to Effectively Deal with Rosacea

June 29, 2019 | Blog

Dear AYA How to Effectively Deal with RosaceaIf you experience bumps and redness on your face, it’s natural to assume that you may be dealing with acne. However, in many cases these symptoms result from a different condition called rosacea. Rosacea causes redness and bumpiness in the skin and blood vessels in the face to become more visible. To help educate and assist our readers,

the cosmetic professionals here at AYA Medical Spa have taken some time to answer a few questions about rosacea and how it can be treated.

Question #1: How common is rosacea and who is most likely to experience it?

Unfortunately, many people are genetically predisposed to rosacea and its symptoms. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), more than 14 million Americans are currently living with rosacea. Although it can occur in anyone, rosacea is most common for middle-aged women with fair complexions. Other risk factors for rosacea include natural blonde hair and blue eyes, Celtic or Scandinavian ancestry, and a family history of rosacea or severe acne.

Question #2: What skincare treatments are best for treating rosacea?

Here at AYA, we offer a wide variety of cosmetic treatments designed to help effectively treat the effects of rosacea. These include chemical peels, cosmetic laser treatments, and more. For instance, Sciton® BBL uses light-based energy to break up uneven skin tone on the face while stimulating healthy collagen production.

Question #3: Is there anything I can do at home to help reduce my rosacea symptoms?

Absolutely. Certain habits and lifestyle alterations can help people with rosacea avoid flare-ups. Cut out things that can trigger rosacea symptoms including spicy foods, alcohol, and excessive stress. It’s important to protect your facial skin by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day. Reduce excessive touching or rubbing of the face. We can even recommend certain skincare products that can help reduce rosacea symptoms.

Here at AYA our goal is to provide our patients with as many options as possible to help treat rosacea and any other aesthetic issues they may be trying to correct. We recommend coming into one of our locations (including our new location in Dallas, Texas) for a complimentary skincare analysis appointment to get better understand your skin and the best products and services to help treat it.
