Dear #AYA: How to Help Your Skin Transition to the Fall Season

August 28, 2017 | Blog

Dear #AYA How to Help Your Skin Transition to the Fall SeasonWelcome back to the latest entry in our ongoing Dear #AYA series. The time has come to begin the transition from the summer season to the fall. The changing of the seasons can be the perfect time to reassess your skin care regimen and fight off any sun damage you may have experienced during the long, hot summer months. That’s why our skincare experts have stopped by to answer a few questions about some cosmetic services and skincare products available at AYA that can help you step into the fall looking and feeling your very best.

Dear #AYA,

I waited too long and feel like I missed my chance to get laser hair removal this summer. Is there a specific time you recommend starting treatments?

Sincerely,
Missed the Boat

Dear Missed the Boat,

If you ask us, the fall is the perfect time to begin laser hair removal. Although you may not show off as much skin as the weather cools down, starting laser hair removal treatments during the fall season certainly has its benefits. Since most patients will require between 4-6 treatments, spaced about 6 weeks apart (though this may vary depending on the patient), beginning your laser hair removal treatments now will have you feeling smooth and great long before next spring rolls around.

Dear #AYA,

Are there any specific ingredients I should be on the lookout for in fall season skincare products?

Sincerely,
Feeling the Burn

Dear Feeling the Burn,

If you spent your summer enjoying fun in the sun, the fall can provide the perfect opportunity for skin repair and maintenance. We recommend seeking out skincare products with vitamin C, one of the most common and effective antioxidants for skin protection. Due to its ability to promote healthy cell growth, Vitamin C can help reverse the effects of sun damage by speeding up the skin’s natural repair systems. Try Obagi C® Fx C-Clarifying Serum if you’re attempting to reduce the appearance of dark spots, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

Dear #AYA,

I know not every chemical peel is intended to work the same way. Is there a certain type of chemical peel that you would suggest from someone trying to erase years of sun damage to the face?

Sincerely,
Seeking Repairs

Dear Seeking Repairs,

You’re right that different chemical peels are designed to treat different issues. For sun damage, we often recommend the ReVitalize Peel® from SkinMedica®. The ReVitalize Peel® can help patients who experience sun damage to the face, as well as acne, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, melasma, or general poor skin quality. This mild, gentle peel uses alpha hydroxy acid to improve the skin’s complexion, tone, and texture while also reducing effects of sun damage and aging like fine lines or wrinkles. Treatments are fast (typically between 20 – 30 minutes), safe, and can provide magnificent, long-lasting results.

Thanks to everyone for submitting such great questions! If you have a question of your own, we’d love to hear it.
