PDO Threads

Performed at our Northside (Atlanta, GA) and Avalon (Alpharetta, GA) locations.

AYA™ Medical Spa is proud to be one of the first skincare providers in Georgia to offer the PDO Threadlifting technique. AYA™ Senior Clinician Mike Kelleher, MMS, PA-C, has not only pioneered this treatment in Georgia, but is the first and only PDO Threads trainer in the state.

This treatment is most commonly referred to as a non-surgical face lift, but we are now able to lift and tighten tissue all over the body. We can now use PDO Threads to lift many areas on the body, as well as the face and neck, including above the knees and on the stomach, arms, and buttocks.

Treatments with PDO Threads involve the use of Polydioxanone (PDO) and Poly-L Lactic Acid (PLLA) suture.

PLLA is the compound used in the dermal filler, Sculptra® Aesthetic.  Polydioxanone is used for biomedical applications, particularly in cardiothoracic surgery, because it is fully absorbed by hydrolysis within 4 to 6 months and doesn’t create any scar tissue. If threadlifting had a bad reputation in the past, it was due to threads that were not re-absorbable. Using PDO and PLLA solves this problem.

PDO Threads are inserted into the skin to stimulate collagen production. This provides a lifting and skin tightening effect. During treatment, needles that are preloaded with PDO or PLLA threads are inserted into the appropriate layer of skin. When a thread is in place, the body treats it as a foreign body and begins to produce collagen, resulting in smoother, younger and more attractive looking-skin

Thread treatments require little to no downtime and leave no scarring. Typically, a patient’s skin will fully absorb the threads within 4 to 6 months of treatment. Contact AYA™ Medical Spa today for pricing information or to schedule a complimentary consultation.

PDO Threads FAQ’s

How do PDO Threads injections rejuvenate my skin?

PDO Threads uses the body’s own repair processes to create healthier, younger-looking skin. The threads are inserted subcutaneously, instantly lifting, tightening and contouring areas suffering from volume loss while simultaneously stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin where treatment has occurred.

How long will results from PDO Threads last?

Results may vary depending on the patient, but results from PDO Threads can last 12-16 months. Fifth Generation PLLA threads can last 18 months or longer. How long the treatment lasts can depend on many factors including the severity of laxity, number of threads used and the thickness of skin as well as how much firming occurs after the lift.

How much time will be required for my treatment?

The duration of your treatment depends on the amount of area that requires treatment. Pre-treatment preparations like cleaning and preparing the skin as well as the application of numbing medication usually takes about 30 minutes. The actual treatment takes roughly 15-30 min to complete.

What side effects are associated with Threads treatments?

There are some mild side effects associated with PDO Threads treatment including discomfort, soreness, bruising, and bleeding immediately following treatment. There is almost no downtime for recovery needed and patients are able to return to normal daily activities immediately.

What areas can be treated with Threads?

We can treat most areas of the body with Threads. Other than the face and neck, the most popular treatment areas are above the knees, stomach, arms, and buttocks.

Can PDO Threads be used in combination with other treatments?

Absolutely! Remarkable results can be achieved by combining PDO/PLLA Threads with other cosmetic treatments including Botox® Cosmetic injections, dermal fillers, Sciton® Laser Treatments, and more.
