IPL Photofacial & Phototherapy Treatments
Performed at our Northside (Atlanta, GA), Avalon (Alpharetta, GA), & Phipps Plaza locations.
AYA™ Medical Spa’s phototherapy treatments have been enhanced and now use Sciton® Laser therapy for improved results. Our phototherapy treatments apply a unique combination of controlled heat and light (Sciton® BBL™ laser) to improve the appearance of age spots, freckles, and sun spots. Additionally, Photofacial treatments can improve skin texture (wrinkles), reduce redness and rosacea symptoms, decrease the appearance of unwanted facial veins, and diminish the visibility of pores on the face, hands, neck, or body.
Our phototherapy for the body is an IPL (intense pulsed light) and radio frequency (RF) technology that uses pulses of light energy to gently remove acne, uneven skin texture, skin discoloration, vascular lesions, and unwanted hair. The radio frequency component works to stimulate collagen production, reduce wrinkling, and firm the treatment area. The system is non-ablative; leaving the surface of the skin intact and instead penetrating to the deeper layers of the dermis.
Similar to the stimulation of collagen promoted by Sculptra® injections, phototherapy treatments performed at our Alpharetta and Atlanta, GA locations must be completed in a cycle that corresponds with your body’s own rejuvenation processes with time in between treatments to allow your skin to heal itself. Typically, IPL photofacial patients see the best skin rejuvenation results after a series of 5 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart.
How do IPL photofacial treatments rejuvenate my skin?
The IPL photofacial uses gentle light and radio wave energies to restore skin to a more youthful state. Brown spots from sun damage and aging (freckles, sun spots), red spider veins, rosacea, or broken capillaries, and rough skin texture will improve over a series of treatments.
Are IPL photofacial treatments safe?
IPL photofacial/phototherapy treatments are safe for the skin. Because the Sciton® technology is non-ablative, the surface of the skin is left unharmed while rejuvenation takes place in the skin’s subdermal layers. There is no noted long-term health hazards from the light or radio waves used in IPL photofacial treatment.
How frequently do I need IPL photofacial treatments?
IPL photofacial treatments are recommended every 3-4 weeks for a total of 5 treatments. Patients often benefit from microdermabrasion in between treatments to exfoliate the dead skin cells and speed the rejuvenation process.
Do IPL photofacial treatments hurt?
The sensation associated with IPL photofacial treatment is often described as a “hot pinch” or “snapping” feeling. The sensation only lasts a fraction of a second, and you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation for a short time afterward. Most people tolerate the treatment without a topical anesthetic. AYA™’s licensed estheticians utilize a cooling device during treatment to further minimize any discomfort.
Are there any side effects associated with IPL photofacial treatments?
IPL photofacial patients may notice temporary pinkness of the treated skin, but flushing should promptly subside. Most people return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment. You can reapply your make-up immediately following treatment. The improvement in pigmented and vascular irregularities can often be appreciated by the time you return for your next treatment 3-4 weeks later. It’s important to understand that pigmented areas temporarily turn darker before they lighten.
Who is a good candidate for IPL photofacial skin rejuvenation?
IPL photofacial treatment is suitable for anyone who wants to improve the signs of sun damage, aging skin, pigment and vascular irregularities, and uneven skin texture. IPL photofacial skin rejuvenation can be used on the face, neck, chest, back, arms, and hands.
