The top non-surgical procedure according to ASPS was Botox^® with over 3 million treatments performed in 2012. Botox^® Cosmetic is a dermal injectable made of a purified form of botulinum that relaxes the facial muscles to reduce wrinkles and furrows. It is injected in small amounts to the upper facial area on the forehead and around the eyes. Results typically last 6 months to a year, so additional treatments are necessary to maintain results since the body eventually absorbs the botulinum substance.
