A chemical peel implements the use of various chemical solutions to improve the appearance of facial skin by removing damaged outer layers. Chemicals are applied by AYA Medical Spa’s licensed estheticians to the epidermal layers of skin: causing the face to peel and regenerate new skin cells.

chemical peel

Chemical peels performed at our Atlanta, GA spas’ are helpful in reducing facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin tones. Patients with only slight sun damage or acne and sensitive skin may benefit most from lighter peels, while those who have more damage may need a deeper peel. Since chemical peel strengths vary, AYA Medical Spa will find the perfect strength to meet your specific needs.

Chemical Peel Options At AYA

Luminage Plus Peel

This superficial peel is for anyone experiencing hyperpigmentation issues, and those who would like to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Age spots, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and melasma often occur with age. This medicated masque, applied by our licensed estheticians, stimulates collagen production which encourages the growth of new, healthy-looking skin. This particular masque is left on the patient’s skin, and they are responsible for its removal. The Luminage Plus Peel also includes an easy-to-follow, at-home regimen that should be strictly followed for optimal results. The pain and irritation associated with this treatment is minimal: some patients’ skin does not peel at all. After a skin analysis and proper consultation with one of our licensed estheticians, we will better be able to predict the outcome of your peel.

Vitalize Peel

This alphahydroxy acid-based peel is recommended to patients with sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, melasma, or an overall poor skin. This gentle, proven-effective peel improves the skin’s complexion, tone, and texture while also reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Treatment only takes 20 to 30 minutes, and the associated down time is minimal. A series of three Vitalize peels are recommended for maximum cosmetic benefit. For most patients, three-week intervals are recommended between treatments. A consultation with one of our licensed estheticians will determine how many treatments you will need for optimal results.

Luminage Peel

This chemical peel helps reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. This treatment is much milder than other chemical peels and employs the use of less potent: most patients report only a gentle tingling sensation during treatment. Despite the Luminage Peel’s mild components, it still effectively stimulates collagen production to improve the skin’s texture and tone, reduce fine line and wrinkles, corrects hyperpigmentation, and decreases acne. After a Luminage Peel, you may experience some redness and peeling, but it is less than that of other peels. This peel should be applied by one of our licensed estheticians every two or three weeks for a series of four to six treatments (determined during consultation).

Vi Peel

With a blend of phenolic acids, vitamin C, and Retin-A, the Vi Peel will improve the appearance of any skin type with little to no downtime. Patients who choose the Vi Peel will see a reduction in age spots, hyperpigmented lesions (including melasma), and the size of their pores. By stimulating collagen and elastin production, fine lines and wrinkles also decrease. Patients with acne or scars from past acne will also notice clearer skin.

Unlike other chemical peels, the Vi Peel is designed to safely even skin tone and improve the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles on the face and body including the hands, arms, chest, elbows, and even knees. This peel produces results on all skin types and with little to no discomfort. Patients with sensitive skin may experience a stinging sensation during application, but our licensed estheticians use cooling methods, such as a fan, to minimize the sensation. This quick, twenty minute treatment will continue to work by gradually improving the appearance of skin for about a week after the treatment. While you’ll see great results with just one Vi Peel, this chemical peel is designed to be used three or four times a year to correct the signs of aging and surface imperfections.

Rejuvenize Peel

The Rejuvenize Peel from SkinMedica® can help smooth the appearance of age signs and skin damage. This peel utilizes a unique mixture to help treat moderate to severe skin imperfections that result from aging and sun damage, including fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and texture. Patients should notice improvement after just one peel, but three to six treatments may be required to achieve the best-possible results.

Illuminize Peel®

The Illuminize Peel® is considered the gentlest chemical peel available from SkinMedica®. This peel can be ideal for first-time, chemical-peel patients who wish to treat more minor skin imperfections or patients trying to achieve brighter, more radiant-looking skin with no downtime. The Illuminize Peel® is appropriate for all skin types.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Peels

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels utilize chemical compounds such as alphahydroxy acid (AHA), trichloroatic acid (TCA), or phenol acid to restore facial skin. By applying the chemical solution to the epidermal layers of the face, damaged skin peels away, revealing the healthy skin underneath.

What should be expected during a chemical peel treatment?

Before treatment, our estheticians will thoroughly wash the facial skin to removal makeup and any oily residue. Then, the chemical solution is applied, creating a controlled sloughing that makes the skin gradually peel and generate new, healthy skin. Many patients report a slight burning sensation as the chemicals are added (more prevalent in stronger peels), but it is shortly reduced to a tingling sensation once the solution is neutralized. AYA’s estheticians use a cooling device during treatment to reduce any discomfort.

How long is the recovery time for a chemical peel?

Immediately following treatment, most patients report a flush similar to sunburn. Patients with sensitive skin may experience some temporary swelling. Two or three days after treatment, the treated skin will begin to peel and reveal ultimate results within seven to ten days of treatment.

How will my skin look after recovering from a chemical peel?

After the skin goes through the peeling process, you will notice a revitalized complexion that will continue to improve over the next four to six weeks as skin shifts through a complete shedding/growth cycle. Expect to see smoother, firmer, clearer, and healthier skin.
