Dear #AYA: How to Take Care of My Eyes

May 30, 2019 | Blog

cosmetic eye treatmentsThe eyes are more than just the windows to the soul. They are possibly the most prominent feature that we have. That’s why it is so important to take care of our eyes, as aesthetic imperfections in this area may be the most-easily noticeable of any area on our body. With this in mind, the cosmetic professionals here at AYA Medical Spa wanted to

answer a few questions we have received from patients about the many cosmetic treatments and skincare products available to help refresh the appearance of the eyes.

Question #1: I have been dealing with crow’s feet around my eyes for some time. No eye cream or product has been able to help me yet. Is there a treatment that can help?

Fan-shaped wrinkles that develop near the outside corners of your eyes, also known as crow’s feet, can be quite tricky to treat using home methods or products alone. We typically recommend Botox® Cosmetic Injections for anyone interested in reducing the appearance of crow’s feet. Botox® works by relaxing the muscles around the eyes, reducing contractions and helping to smooth out the skin in this area.

Question #2: After searching for a way to lengthen my eyelashes, I have had good success with Latisse® Eyelash Enhancement recently. Will applying Latisse® more than once per day help speed up my results?

We’re glad to hear that Latisse® is working for you. However, we would not recommend applying Latisse® more than once per day. Latisse® is intended to gradually increase the length and thickness of the eyelashes over a 16-week period. Applying it more than the recommended once daily will not help you achieve the final results any faster and may actually negatively impact the progress you have made.

Question #3: After years in the sun, the skin around my eyes has become dry, weathered, and tough. Is there a product you would recommend?

Too much time in the sun can lead to dry skin, wrinkles, and puffiness around the eyes. One product that we have seen a lot of success treating this with is SkinMedica TNS Illuminating Eye Cream. TNS Eye Repair® is applied at night, when our skin cells activate natural healing mechanisms to help undo damage from the sun and other daily pollutants. By utilizing growth factors, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid, TNS Eye Repair® can provide incredible relief for sun damaged skin.
