Rejuvenating Skin Treatments to Reduce the Effects of Sun Damage

May 16, 2013 | Other, Skin Care

With the arrival of summer and the start of long-awaited vacations bringing skincare and sun protection into focus, May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month.  The message of Skin Cancer Awareness Month is designed to increase public understanding of sun damage prevention as well as skin cancer screening and treatment. AYA Medical Spa always reminds patients to use sunscreen, limit their time in direct sunlight, and cover sun-exposed skin with clothing and hats. Unprotected sun exposure causes pre-mature aging skin conditions such as wrinkles and sun spots. Since spending some time in the sun is inevitable and the damage is cumulative, AYA also wants to share skin rejuvenation treatments that can address sun damage and even skin tone.

To address the signs of photo damage and aging on the face, chemical peels and microdermabrasion are two treatments to safely exfoliate skin and encourage collagen production. Chemical peels use various chemical solutions to remove damaged outer layers of skin and reveal healthy skin underneath. We offer over five different chemical peels at AYA, including customized peels to treat specific skin types and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and sun spots. Microdermabrasion is another facial rejuvenation treatment that uses a diamond encrusted tip or aluminum oxide crystals to massage and exfoliate the skin’s surface. Microdermabrasion can also be used on the chest and hands to minimize wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and sun spots.

In addition to chemical peels and microdermabrasion, our latest Sciton® laser technology is a skin resurfacing system that delivers light energy to revitalize skin on the neck, face, chest, and hands. With two different laser options, the Broadband Light and Erbium laser can treat a wide range of skin types and conditions. Sciton® can be customized based on the strength of laser and number of treatments. For example, a patient can choose a series of lighter peels for gradual improvement and minimal downtime or one strong peel for comprehensive rejuvenation.

While these anti-aging treatments can reduce the effects of sun damage, sunscreen and other skincare products are essential to preventing wrinkles and skin cancer. For the month of May, AYA is offering 15% off all of their sunscreens in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month until May 31st, 2013.
