Summer Skin Care Tips for Traveling

July 11, 2012 | Blog, Other, Skin Care

Traveling can wreak havoc on the skin. Even if you’re sticking to the best possible skincare routine, climate and environmental changes can cause dryness, excessive oil production, or even breakouts. While it’s always important to wear sunscreen and protect our skin against sun damage we rarely take the extra steps necessary to keep our skin looking great during vacation. Leave it to the providers of AYA Medical Spa to provide a guide to skin care during your summer travels.

Skin care is just like all the other loose ends you have to tie up before going out of town. It’s important to make sure you have enough of your favorite skin care products so you don’t run out during your trip. If you’re flying, be sure to remember to pack liquid products that are over 3 oz. in a checked suitcase or transfer them to smaller bottles if you’d like to pack them in your carry-on bag. It’s a good idea to schedule your regular spa appointments like chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatments with plenty of time for your skin to heal before your trip since you’ll most likely be taking lots of pictures. Many of our patients also pay a visit to our lash stylist before leaving town so they won’t have to worry about runny mascara on vacation.

If you are going on a long car ride or flight (5+ hours), use that downtime wisely. While you don’t want the whole plane staring at green goop on your face, you can still take care of your skin without all the attention. Take a makeup removing cleanser that you can use to remove makeup right from your seat without the need of soap or water. Once the makeup has been removed apply a serum or moisturizer to treat the face. Once the products have been absorbed, you can relax with plenty of time to reapply makeup before you reach your destination.

During your vacation, it’s important to continue your normal skin care routine while also addressing the skin changes that may occur in a different environment. Odds are you won’t be going to bed or waking up at the same times you usually do. Be sure to follow your normal skincare routine even during unusual hours. Although you may feel tired when you return home, don’t let the exhaustion take over the hard work you’ve put into making your skin look great on vacation—keep following your daily skincare routine.

Instead of treating blemishes and skin conditions as they occur, having a steady skin care routine can help keep your skin looking great all the time. You may be reading this blog and thinking, “This all sounds great, but I guess it’s time I get into a ‘skin care routine.’” If so, you’re not alone. We often see patients at AYA who just aren’t sure what their skin really needs. For these patients, we perform a complimentary skin analysis consultation to listen to their concerns, thoroughly evaluate the skin, and suggest a skin care regimen based on their needs.

To find out what treatments and services will best meet your skin’s needs contact us to schedule a skin analysis appointment today. Visit our website to learn more about the services we offer. As you’re stocking up on your favorite skin care products before vacation, remember that you can save on skin care with 15% off all skin care products at AYA Medical Spa from July 22nd-28th. Additionally, be sure to visit our Phipps Plaza location on July 21st for Obagi® Patient Appreciation Day to receive 20% off all Obagi® Medical products and a free sunhat from Obagi®.
