2016 Skincare Trend Predictions

January 15, 2016 | Blog

predicting 2016 skin care trendsTrends are constantly shifting and that’s no exception for beauty and skincare treatments! A skincare treatment that is popular today could be replaced by a different treatment in a matter of months. We don’t necessarily view this as a negative but more a testament of the constant evolution of anti-aging treatments and the overall improvements of science and technology to help treat a slew of skin conditions. Each year at AYA Medical Spa we like to predict what the year’s biggest trends will be and have rounded up our top three 2016 skincare trends we foresee really taking off in popularity among our patients.

Manscaping

Who thinks skincare is solely a female-only interest? We certainly don’t; in fact, we’ve noticed over the past year an influx of men who are ready to take their skincare routine to the next level and embrace their GQ status more.  Cosmetic injectables like Botox® and facial fillers give men the anti-aging benefits of reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and lax skin without having to visit their local plastic surgeon. Injectable treatments are quick and require little downtime so the appeal of not interrupting busy schedules is a big plus.

Our second prediction for men is that an increasing number are going to jump on the going hairless trend. Men aren’t just exploring laser hair removal for the face but also on their entire bodies – mainly the chest, back, arms, legs, and buttocks areas. We’re all susceptible to razor burn and other unsightly skin conditions when using traditional hair removal methods and in the long run, the amount we spend on razors and actually shaving can be significantly reduced after a series of predetermined laser hair removal treatments.

Instagram-worthy Pouts

Perhaps you’ve seen a lot of buzz last year about celebrities opening up more about their love of cosmetic injectables – more specifically facial fillers. We’re a tech-savvy population and the rise of the selfie in recent years has put our faces front and center on the internet. Fillers have stayed consistently popular as anti-aging facial treatments but recently we’re seeing an influx of younger patients who are looking at facial fillers as both preventative treatments to slow down aging and also to add volume to thinned lips. Our facial fillers are FDA-approved for patients 21+ and can plump up lips for up to two years, depending on the specific filler you choose. We have a team of in-house cosmetic injectors who specialize in facial rejuvenation and can help new facial filler patients decide which will help them get the results they’re wanting, whether it’s a recent college grad or someone gearing up for their 20+ high school reunion!

Science-backed Skincare

At AYA we like to emphasize the importance of a solid skincare routine at home. Not all skincare products are created equally so we like to tell our patients not to always believe the hype they see on TV. Our skincare line is made up of medical-grade products meaning professional healthcare providers (like dermatologists, doctors, and surgeons) have specifically worked with brands like Obagi®, SkinMedica®, Revision®, and a few others to create science-backed skincare products with proven results. There isn’t a fountain of youth per se but skincare lines are testing special formulas that combine powerful antioxidants, retinol, and technology to continue to improve skincare for patients. There’s a higher demand from patients who want to know the active ingredients in skincare products and are pushing for more organic, natural, and safe products to help accomplish everything from skin brightening and intense hydration to exceptional sun protection and increased collagen production.

What do you think about our top skincare trend predictions for 2016 – would you give any of these treatments a try?
