Sciton® Laser Resurfacing Series Part 2: What Are My Options?

March 24, 2014 | Blog, Facial Rejuvenation, Laser Resurfacing, Other

Staying up-to-date with the latest skincare treatments and technology is something our licensed estheticians and physicians at AYA Medical Spa pride themselves on.  This can especially be said of the Sciton® laser system, one of the most versatile and technologically advanced resurfacing laser systems available that we use to treat virtually any skin condition our patients may have.  In part one of our Sciton® series we discussed commonly asked questions our patients have about the system’s benefits.  In part two below, we will explore the options Sciton® can provide by answering additional questions we frequently hear:

“Why are there two laser options for Sciton®?”
The two options available are the Erbium and Broadband Light (BBL™) lasers, each used to treat specific conditions ranging from acne and age spots to unwanted hair and uneven skin tone.  Sciton®’s versatile laser options are designed to fit each patient’s unique skin type and condition while producing long-lasting results.  The Erbium laser is slightly stronger of the two and is used to reduce wrinkles, sun damage, scars and hyperpigmentation while the BBL™ laser treats acne, reduces spider veins and smooths skin texture.

“How are Sciton® treatments measured?”
Sciton® laser strength can be adjusted based on the patient’s skin type and strength of peel needed.  It is measured by microns, which are very small as 40 microns is the equivalence of the diameter of a piece of human hair.  Sciton® laser resurfacing peels can remove skin anywhere from 4 to 50 microns deep, so it can address minor concerns like blemishes, hyperpigmentation or sun spots and aging concerns like deep wrinkles or scars.

“What treatment options are available for Sciton®?”
Every Sciton® laser treatment can be customized to fit our patient’s needs and desired improvement with virtually no limit to what can be achieved.  Some of our most popular options include:

Forever Young BBL:  This completely non-invasive, no downtime procedure revitalizes skin tone and texture while removing age spots, vascular irregularities and other imperfections.  Over time, multiple BBL™ treatments can reverse and delay skin aging on a molecular level.  Patients will see improvement in the appearance of aged skin and even reduce the risk of skin cancer.

Deep Resurfacing: The Sciton® Tunable Resurfacing Laser allows patients to get dramatic improvements of skin quality and visible signs of aging without the need for comprehensive surgery. Restore sun-damaged skin, erase lip lines & wrinkles around the eyes with improved tone, texture and skin laxity all in one treatment.

NanoLaserPeel:  Considered the lightest treatment option, the NanoLaserPeel gently and precisely removes the uppermost layer of skin to reveal glass smooth texture and an overall glow.  Primarily considered for the face, NanoLaserPeels can be performed on the neck, chest and other areas as well.  For patients considering treatments like chemical peels and microdermabrasion or who may be nervous about laser treatments, this is a great introduction procedure.  Optimal results can be seen after two to four treatments over the course of six weeks.

MicroLaserPeel:  A mid-level treatment that goes deeper into the epidermis, targeting mild wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, irregular pigmentation and texture irregularities.  This treatment can be combined with Pro Fractional treatment to improve results without increasing downtime.  Two to four treatments over a 12-month span is recommended.
