Dear #AYAGirls: Frequently Asked Skincare Questions

September 30, 2015 | Blog

Dear AYAGirls Frequently Asked Skincare QuestionsAt AYA Medical Spa, we like to think of ourselves as investigative skin reporters.  We scour the market for the most innovative skincare technology and cosmetic treatments that will help our patients keep their skin healthy and glowing.  There are so many products and services out there that we don’t just adopt any treatments because we want to provide the best!  In both our Phipps Plaza and Northside locations we often get a lot of questions ranging from how our skincare treatments work to who are good candidates and even what treatments feel like.  Each and every treatment we offer has been performed on our staff so we can give our patients honest responses and even see the results for ourselves.  Then we got to thinking – why not have our clients send in their questions and we feature them in a blog series?  Over the past several weeks we have been asking patients to send in their questions on Facebook, in person, email or just give us a call and we’d get them in rotation; so without further ado, here are the first ‘Dear #AYAGirls’ frequently asked skincare questions (and our honest answers)!

Dear #AYAGirls,

I heard cosmetic injectables can be a sort of preventative treatment.  If I’m in my late 20’s/early 30’s with a little wrinkling, can I still consider Botox® or a facial filler treatment?

Sincerely,

Wrinkle Worrier

Dear Wrinkle Worrier,

Absolutely!  Botox® is FDA-approved for use on patients 18 and up and has become increasingly popular as a preventative anti-aging treatment.  Botox® is made up of purified botulinum toxin A, and neurotoxin used to temporarily relax facial muscles on the upper third of the face and can be safely repeated as needed to maintain a wrinkle-free appearance.  Then there are facial fillers like Juvéderm®, Voluma and Radiesse®, to name a few.  Not all facial fillers are solely used for wrinkles and are great for plumping the lips and adding volume to the cheeks.  Each cosmetic injectable has its unique benefits and results that vary, but generally last 4 months and even upwards of over a year depending on which facial filler you use.  If you’re trying to get a leg up on anti-aging, besides religious use of SPF, injectables definitely get our stamp of approval.

Dear #AYAGirls,

My muffin top is a big concern of mine but I want to avoid plastic surgery at all costs right now.  What are my fat reduction options?

Sincerely,

Little Miss Muffin

Dear Little Miss Muffin,

One word, three syllables: CoolSculpting®.  Before we found CoolSculpting® fat reduction treatments there wasn’t much we were able to do with stubborn pockets of fat unless you went the liposuction route.  What’s unique about CoolSculpting® is that it uses Cryolipolysis, or an extreme cold process, to remove fat through the body’s lymphatic system.  Basically it freezes off your fat.  The cold is applied directly to the skin on top of the places carrying the unwanted fat that’s concerning you.  It then damages the fat within those cells.  Over the next several weeks following your CoolSculpting® nonsurgical fat reduction treatment, the body naturally responds by expelling damaged fat cells through the body’s lymphatic system.  This means that results aren’t immediately seen since elimination is gradual, but on average, patients can expect a 20% fat reduction after one treatment.  Best of all, there’s no downtime required and you can immediately return to your regularly scheduled programming right after your treatment.

Navigating the world of skincare can be daunting.  Just get on Facebook and you may notice the saturation of articles featuring tips on how to get your skin as smooth as the day you were born.  Sure many of these sources can be great resources for your own skincare treatments, but having a knowledgeable staff of qualified and experienced skincare providers can go a lot further in terms of successful results.  We wanted to help dispel some myths and answer common questions our patients have about their skin so we hope you enjoyed the first part of our series.  To keep this going we definitely need your help and invite you all to share your skincare success stories or ask us any questions that you may have.  Connect with AYA on Facebook to submit your questions or email us at aya@atlplastic.com; we’ll make sure it’s anonymous and you can even come up with your own unique nickname if you want to – you never know if your question will be featured in our next Dear #AYAGirls series!
