The Stats Are In! The Top 3 Skincare Treatments of 2015Every year the American Society of Plastic Surgeons releases statistics on just what surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures the people are getting the most. From microdermabrasion and sclerotherapy (vein removal) treatments to cosmetic injectables and laser treatments, it’s always cool to see how our own Atlanta-area patients have contributed to the millions of cosmetic procedures performed with each passing year. Collectively speaking, there were 14,202,224 minimally-invasive procedures performed (that’s a 2% increase from 2014 and a whopping 158% surge since 2000). Without further ado, here are the top three skincare treatments of 2015:

Botox® – 6,757,198 treatments performed (2% increase from 6,673,608 in 2014)

Facial wrinkles are no match for this muscle-relaxing cosmetic injectable. Backed with the FDA’s stamp of approval, Botox® is a great anti-aging solution that works by temporarily reducing the appearance of fine lines, crow’s feet, and furrows on/around the eyes, brows, and forehead. Botox® is made up of a purified form of botulinum used to relax the muscles on the face that contribute to prominent expression lines as we age. Patients enjoy the quick, visible results of Botox® and especially like that the actual injections can be administered in as little as 10 minutes – with results that can last up to four months!

Facial Fillers – 2,440,724 treatments performed (6% increase from 2,295,647 in 2014)

It comes as no surprise to us as to why these anti-aging gems have seen the biggest jump in popularity and we’ve definitely been closely following the great accolades facial fillers have received this past year from patients and celebrities alike who have been candid about their love of facial fillers. Including big names like Juvéderm®, Voluma, Radiesse®, Restylane® & Sculptra®, facial fillers offer a wide range of benefits that men and women can tailor to their specific facial concerns. Fillers aren’t just merely used for anti-aging purposes but that’s just a broad overview of what facial fillers help patients achieve. Thinned lips? Sunken cheeks that make you look skeletal? Jowls around the mouth? All problem areas that fillers can tackle as they increase collagen production, firm the skin to help treat existing and future wrinkles, and add some extra plumping to various places on the face (like the lips, nasal labial folds, and cheeks). Each facial filler is different – they hone in on specific areas, are made up of unique formulas, and offer results that can last up to two years (depending on which filler is chosen).

Chemical Peels – 1,210,252 treatments performed (5% increase from 1,250,059 in 2014)

Great anti-aging benefits aren’t just limited to injectables or lasers. Superficial concerns like age spots, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, acne/acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, and melasma can accumulate as we age leaving the skin in poor condition. Chemical peels are the customizable, nonsurgical topical treatment to help shed dead skin and produce smoother, firmer, and clearer skin. Each chemical peel is topically applied and the solution is tailored to complement each patient’s specific skin tone and type (even patients with sensitive skin) to reveal healthier skin over four to six weeks.

If we had to predict which of these skincare treatments will top the list in 2016, we would bet these numbers will only increase as word continues to spread on just how awesome the results can be for just about anyone (men, women, young, mature). Now, we’re just hoping nonsurgical fat reduction, skin tightening, and laser skin resurfacing technologies will get some of the shared love and join the top rankings in the future.
